The Santa Barbara D.R.T.E. Ultramarathon ™ benefits the Los Padres Forest Association
The Santa Barbara D.R.T.E. Ultramarathon™ course is the culmination of two and a half years of route research, review and submittals. The course was painstakingly laid out to meet the strict criteria as required by the Los Padres Forest Service to meet a “sustainably permitted” standard so the event could occur on an annual basis. This region of the Los National Forest is predominantly “Multi Use”, however it is interwoven with numerous biological, historical, geological and culturally sensitive areas that must be preserved and protected from usage/ exposure. The Santa Barbara D.R.T.E. Ultramarathon™ slogan “Earn Your Return” is aptly derived from the course route which is a mix of “Point to Point” and “Out and Back”. Typical weather patterns for this time of year result in some of our warmest days and evenings. Majestic thunderhead cloud formations will be breaching the backcountry mountain range, potrero spring grasses and wildflower blooms will have yielded to the golden browns shimmering in the afternoon breezes. Trails and dirt roads will likely be hard packed and dusty. Routed through many sections of the Santa Ynez Mountain Range, entrants will see far vistas in all directions as they ascend and descend the steep trails and dirt roads, mixed intermittently with views of the city of Santa Barbara, the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands as well as passing a few nearby reservoirs. The Santa Barbara D.R.T.E. Ultramarathon™ in a short time will be recognized as one of the nation's “must do annual” trail events with a spotlight on the solo and team relay DRTE 100 mile divisions. However, great events are derived from the masses that attend and that is why we feel that hosting 100km, 50 mile and 50km will surly add more of a buzz to our exceptional weekend of grueling trail running and post event festivities on Sunday morning. All being hosted from the exceptional Rancho Oso Guest Ranch facility 30 minutes from downtown Santa Barbara, this place has it all: cabin accommodations, campsite(s), RV/trailer/camper van hook ups, plenty of shower facilities, two large pools, Jacuzzi, equestrian facility/rides; lots of things for the friends, family and crew to cozy up too!
